Making Text Links

Have you ever needed to show add a link to something, but you didn't know how? Here are codes to help you out!

To make a link, the code is:

<a href="http:// address you want to link"> What you want to type goes here.</a>

If you want the link to open in a new window, use this code:

<a href="http:// address you want to link" target="_blank"> What you want to type goes here.</a>

How about an email link? Use this code:

<a href="mailto:USERNAME@email.com">Email me!</a>

What if your page has to scroll far down? You can use page anchors! When someone clicks on the link, it willl drop them down or bring them up to a designated point on yor page.

1st code:
<a href="#CODEWORD">What you want to type goes here.</a>

2nd code:
<a name="CODEWORD"></a>

CODEWORD is a word you pick out as a key to where the anchor takes you. The first code goes where someone will click it to bring them somewhere. The second, smaller code goes above the place that it needs to drop down to. This makes it very easy on long pages!!

If you are using frames or iframes, you need to make sure that your links open in where you want it to go. Where it says frame you can also change it to iframe, depending on what you are using.

<a href="http:// address you want to link" target="frame"> What you want to type goes here.</a>
